Thanks for your comments. You've given me the answers I wanted. People are entirely too anxious to tell me to get a bigger bike. I don't want to. I am a very small person, and the Savage just feels right. (I just sold a Yamaha that never did, partly because I could only touch tiptoe.) I will want to add a few accessories for comfort and make a few modifications. It sounds like if I monitor my oil level and don't push the bike more miles at a time than it wants to be pushed, I'll be just fine.
I may wish to avoid riding long distances with people on big water-cooled bikes, because their needs are different. I rode recently with a woman on a Goldwing that had been tricycled and had a cd changer. Is that really a motorcycle?
